TYPE: San Carlos Red-on-White

DATE: A.D. 1250 to 1450 (Neuzil & Lyons, 2005;59)

COMMON FORMS: Bowls, jars, pitchers.

COMMON BACKGROUND COLORS: White slip that can be buff, or somewhat transparent, thin to thick chalky white.

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Exteriors.

COMMON DESIGNS: See San Carlos Red-on-Brown.

KEY DIFFERENCES: White slip, and those listed under San Carlos Red-on-Brown.

 

 

1N Salado San Carlos Red-on-White bowl with fine line design consisting of parallel lines, dots and solid triangles with F-hooks attached, within framing lines.  The F-hooks are reminiscent of those found on White Mountain Redware, Fourmile Polychrome.

Approximate Dimensions: 6 1/2" or 16.5 cm. by 3" or 7.6 cm.

 

 

2N Salado San Carlos Red-on-White bowl with a design that goes to the rim.
