TYPE: Woodruff Brown AKA: Forestdale Brown and Forestdale Red (Gregory & Wilcox, 2007;216) DATE: A.D. 500 to 1100 (Hays-Gilpin, Hartesveldt, 1998;150) See comments. COLOR: Light brown to dark reddish brown, often gray-black fire clouded. SLIP OR SURFACE TREATMENT: Not slipped, often finely polished. VARIETIES: Non-smudged and smudged. TEMPER: Coarse to fine sand or "white angular fragments" (likely sherds), see comments. COMMENTS: The "white angular fragment" (likely sherds) variety dates approximately from A.D. 900 to 1100 (Hays-Gilpin, Hartesveldt, 1998;150).
