TYPE: Tularosa Black-on-White DATE: A.D. 1200 to 1300 (Reid, Montgomery, Zedeno in Kiva, Vol.61, No. 1,1995) BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs, occasionally secondary exterior designs. COMMON DESIGNS: "Tightly packed" solid and hatched motifs that are interlocked with each other. Hatching is usually diagonal or parallel, crosshatching occurs. Usually the hatched motifs are equal to 2 times the size of the solid motifs. Completely solid designs occur as well, these are "tightly packed" or fine (for solids), that are often interlocked as well. Framing lines and hatching lines are usually the same width. In some examples the hatching lines may be incredibly fine (.5 mm) and therefore may be noticeably thinner than the framing lines. KEY DIFFERENCES: Finer designs than Reserve. Hatched motifs are usually equal to 2 times the size of the solids whereas Reserve hatched motifs are usually 2 to 4 times the size of the solids generally.
