TYPE: Tsegi Polychrome

DATE: A.D. 1225 to 1300 (Oppelt, 2008;50)

COMMON BACKROUND COLOR(S): Orange.

PRIMARY BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors.

COMMON DESIGNS: Primary design fields had thin to medium black lines on a single red band and mostly orange background, while secondary design fields had thick red lines on an unslipped orange background. Multiple interior rim bands common and often the only interior design.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Interior and exterior orange background color. Bowl interiors usually have a red band along the inner rim with multiple thin concentric black lines near the rim. Exteriors often have broad red stripes on an orange background.

 

1Y Tsegi Polychrome Pitcher.

Usually Tsegi Polychrome would have more concentric black lines, it is interesting that the broad red lines or a band often seen on bowl exteriors, is on the handle of this pitcher.

Approximate Dimensions: 6" or 15.2 cm. by 4 1/4" or 10.8 cm.
