We often see early Tohono O'Odham Black-on-Red vessels incorrectly labeled as Pee-Posh (Mariciopa). Hopefully the following close-up photos of the surface of Tohono O'Odham Black-on-Red vessels can help determine tribal affiliation of a vessel in question. Note the white specs of temper prodruding through the some of the surfaces, this is a trait that we have not seen in Pee-Posh pottery. Pee-Posh pottery is usually very uniform in color and highly polished. As you can see, Tohono O'Odham pottery is not as well polished and varies in shades of orange and red slip, many times having a mottled or fire-clouded look.
