TYPE: St. Johns Polychrome Variants

DATE: A.D. 1175 to 1300 (Carlson, 1970;39)

 

 

1N St. Johns Polychrome variant bowl with part white and part red interior slips.

Approximate Dimensions: 7 1/2" by 3 1/2"

 

 

2Y St. Johns Polychrome variant bowl with an all white interior slip and no exterior design. The bowl reminds one of Salado Pinto Polychrome.

Approximate Dimensions: 13" by 5 1/4"

 

 

3N St. Johns Polychrome Variant.

This bowl had patterned areas intentionally left unslipped on the interior.

The exterior is normal for St. Johns Polychrome.

 

 

4Y St. Johns Polychrome Variant Bowl.

This bowl has a polychrome interior however, the more unusual feature is the

exterior bottom that has a X or cross painted in broad lines (four colors).

Approximate Dimensions: 7 1/8" by 4"

 

 

 

5Y St. Johns Polychrome Variant Bowl with an unslipped bottom,

usually the bottoms are slipped red.

Approximate Dimensions: 8 1/2" by 4 1/2"
