TYPE: Sosi Black-on-White AKA Kia-ko Black-on-White DATE: A.D. 1070 to 1180 (Hays-Gilpin & Hartesveldt, 1998;115) BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs, occasionally secondary exterior designs. COMMON DESIGNS: Designs are somewhat the same, but are usually a little finer than Escavada Black-on-White in the Cibola Whiteware Section of this guide. Many designs also have alot of "right angles" as does Snowflake Black-on-White in the Cibola White Ware section of this guide. There usually is no fine hatching or dots in Sosi designs. Linework usually averages 5 to 7 millimeters or 3/16" to 1/4" wide. KEY DIFFERENCES: All Tusayan Whiteware types have a vegetal paint (vegetal paint often looks soft or watery so the edges are not as sharp as mineral paint) and are supposed to have light paste. All Little Colorado Whiteware types have vegetal paint and are supposed to have a dark paste. Mesa Verde Whiteware types may have mineral or vegetal paint. See article titled General Pottery Descriptions. OTHER COMMON TYPES WITH SIMILAR DESIGN STYLES: Cibola Whiteware: Escavada Black-on-White Cibola Whiteware: Snowflake Black-on-White Little Colorado Whiteware: Holbrook B Black-on-White Mesa Verde Whiteware: Some Mancos Black-on-White
