TYPE: Showlow Black-on-Red Corrugated

DATE: A.D. 1050 to 1200 (Hays-Gilpin, 1998;160)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors.

COMMON DESIGNS: There is a considerable design variation, some resemble Puerco and Wingate Styles of White Mountain Redware, others have a unique style. Usually a large circle or square area is left unpainted in the bottom.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Watery-thin red slip on a soft paste. The black paint is usually organic and often is burned off in places leaving a "ghostly" image or stain.

TEMPER: Finely ground sherd and quartz sand.
