TYPE: Agua Fria Glaze-on-Red (Glaze A)

AKA: Pecos Glaxe-on-Red

DATE: A.D. 1315 to 1425 (Oppelt,2002;2)

PRIMARY BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors, occasionally with secondary unit exterior lines or crosses.

COMMON DESIGNS: Banded interior wall designs on bowls, occasionally with simple exterior unit motifs such as paired lines or crosses. The rims and necks of jars are usually not decorated. Heavy banding lines common above and below thin framing lines. Usually no hatched designs and only solid motifs used.

 

KEY DIFFERENCES: Rims are usually the same thickness as the neck or body of the vessel. Linework is usually heavier or thicker on Agua Fria Glaze-on-Red compared to Zuni Ware: Heshota Glaze-on-Red. The necks of jars are usually not decorated on Agua Fria Glaze-on-Red, as they usually are on Zuni Ware, Heshota Glaze-on-Red. There is also a slight difference in the paste color between these two types.
