COMMON DESIGNS: Large interlocked solid and hatched motifs. Often large solids and broad lines are in the design as well. Glazy paint more common. Broad lines common, as is stepped filler lines. Occasionally broadline keys and like designs are painted over thin line hatching (or vice versa), as seen in the Kayenta style of Tusayan Whiteware. This motif style is known as the "mosquito bar", it is also known as a negative style. Framing lines are usually the same width as hatching lines. Hatching is often parallel, diagonal hatching occurs frequently, occasional cross hatching. KEY DIFFERENCES: "Heavy" linework and solids, not as "tightly packed" as in Tularosa. Glazy paint more common than in Tularosa. Broad lines common. One or two separate broad banding lines are common and considered diagnostic. "Stepped filler lines" are wide short lines that touch each other in the corners are considered diagnostic for the Pinedale Style.
