TYPE: Mimbres Black-on-White

AKA: Mimbres Classic Black-on-White

DATE: A.D. 1000 to 1150 (Brody & Leblanc, 1983;45)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interiors, occasionally secondary exteriors.

COMMON DESIGNS: Designs most often had one or more rim bands immediately below the rim.  Geometric and life form designs can be incredibly fine and sophisticated.  Multiple bands below the rim are a diagnostic trait, but not a rule. Multiple parallel hatching lines can get very long.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Finer designs than earlier types.  Rim bands usually present. Framing or bounding lines are as thin as the hatching lines.

BACKGROUND COLOR: Exterios of jars and bowl interiors white slipped, bowl exteriors not slipped and can be natural brown, red, gray, or white. Fire clouds common.

COMMENTS: Some researchers call Mimbres Classic Black-on-White: Style III.
