TYPE: Kiet Siel Black-on-Red

DATE: A.D. 1250 to 1300 (Oppelt, 2008;21)

COMMON BACKROUND COLOR(S): Red.

PRIMARY BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors.

COMMON DESIGNS: Thick and thin black lines along with thin hatching. Staggered filler elements are common.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Thick and thin black designs on a red slipped background.  Earlier Tusayan Black-on-Red designs are made up entirely of thin black lines. Medicine Black-on-Red often has elongated solid triangles that develop into lines, and the designs are often pendant to the rim or banded.

COMMENTS: Exteriors of jars or other forms may have orange non-slipped bottoms.
