TYPE: Kapo Black AKA: Tewa Polished Black DATE: A.D. 1650 to Present (Oppelt, 2008:20) KEY DIFFERENCES: Smudged Black (slipped). SLIP OR SURFACE TREATMENT: Smudged, highly polished. TEMPER: Tuff (early examples), ? (late examples). FORMS: Jars and bowls. COMMENTS: Kapo Black was slipped red then when fired turned black, this is why occasionally where the smudge "didn't take" there are areas of red.
