TYPE: Jeddito Tooled

DATE: A.D. 1300 - 1625+ (Oppelt, 2008;19)

COMMON BACKGROUND COLOR(S): Yellow to orange, dull white to gray to black, pink, fire clouds common.

TEMPER: Usually quartz sand, some with fine mica particles.

COMMON DESIGNS: Punctate or punching is often done in a wide band around the widest diameter of the vessel, or from the widest diameter all the way to the rim. Incising is usually done in a zig-zag design around the neck of jars.

COMMENTS: Surfaces may or may not have much quartz temper protruding, often giving the vessel a rough texture.

Approximate Dimensions: 10 1/2" by 7 1/8"

The punctated tooling has been somewhat obliterated, perhaps from use or wear.

The last photo shows the quartz temper protruding from the inner surface of the jar.

 

2Y Jeddito Tooled and Painted Jar.

The inner rim has a painted cross onit, perhaps potters or ownership mark?
