TYPE: Flagstaff Black-on-White

DATE: A.D. 1150 to 1220 (Hays-Gilpin & Hartesveldt, 1998;116)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs, occasionally secondary exterior designs.

COMMON DESIGNS: Flagstaff designs are similar to Black Mesa and Sosi, however they are finer.  Designs are more "tightly packed" with thinner linework that often has opposing barbs. Fine hatching occurs, as well as line work with opposing barbs on a single line. Solids are not common but do occur.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Finer designs and thinner lines usually thinner than 1/2 centimeter or 3/16" wide, hatching common.
