TYPE: Wiyo Black-on-White DATE: A.D. 1300 to 1400 (Oppelt, 2008;56) BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs. SLIP: Present and well polished on bowl interiors, exteriors rarely slipped but polished. COMMON DESIGNS: Banded layouts often with heavy or thin upper and lower seperate banding lines. The banded designs usually consist of thin framing lines filled with solids and/or hatched filled motifs. "X-sectioning" is common. Solid motifs usually dominate hatched motifs in quantity and size. KEY DIFFERENCES: Paste is almost like Biscuit Ware, often dark shiney carbon paint. COMMENTS: Wiyo Black-on-White is considered transitional to Biscuit Ware.
