TYPE: Socorro Black-on-White

DATE: A.D. 950 to 1300 (Oppelt, 2008;46)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs.

COMMON DESIGNS: Designs became more complex with large solid motifs and opposed hatched motifs. The hatched motifs used thin linework. Some vessels had only solid motifs and some had only hatched motifs. Designs were usually in a band layout. Other elements were checkerboards, solid triangles with pendant short lines, dotted lines. Open handled ladles or "half gourd" ladles often had designs pendant from the rim with alot of open space in the bottom.

KEY DIFFERENCES: No Slip. Mineral paint, often a matte to shiny black glaze on later examples dating to A.D. 1250 or later (Dittert Jr, and Plog, 1991;138)

SLIP OR SURFACE TREATMENT: Usually no slip, highly polished.
