TYPE: Citadel Polychrome DATE: A.D. 1115 to 1200 (Oppelt, 2008;8) COMMON BACKGROUND COLOR(S): Bowl interiors orange, exteriors red. PRIMARY BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Interiors. COMMON DESIGNS: See Primary Design Varieties: KEY DIFFERENCES: Bowl exteriors are red slipped (some only to the base). Wide red stripes outlined by thin black stripes on an orange background. Sometimes simple black dots or lines are painted on the red spaces or lines (hatching would make it Cameron Polychrome). Red-on-orange exteriors would make it Tusayan Polychrome. Usually no horizontal handles on bowls. PRIMARY DESIGN VARIETIES: 1) Wide red lines or designs outlined with thin black lines on orange. 2) Red outlined with black, also with black simple lines (not hatching), dashes, or dots painted on the wide red lines.
