TYPE: Sankawi Black-on-Cream

DATE: A.D. 1500 to 1600 (Oppelt,2002:52)

BOWL DESIGN PLACEMENT: Primary interior designs with secondary exterior designs.

COMMON DESIGNS: Designs are banded usually with multiple upper and lower banding lines, the upper banding lines often have a heavy or thicker line on top with the others being thin, while the lower set of banding lines usually has the lowest banding line being thicker and heavier than the others. Often the upper set of banding lines have "spirit breaks" in the same location.

BACKGROUND COLOR: Creamy white or yellowish slip, often the slip is crazed.

KEY DIFFERENCES: Jars have a large mid-body rounded bulge ("spare tire") and a concave base with polished interiors. Shouldered bowls appear.
