TYPE: Sakona Polychrome DATE: A.D. 1580 to 1650 (Oppelt,2002:49) COMMON DESIGNS: Red slip added to the underbody and/or rimtop of normal Sakona Black-on-Tan. Designs usually have multiple framing lines. BACKGROUND COLOR: Tan. Some bowl bottom exteiors slipped red. Some rims red. KEY DIFFERENCES: Sakona Polychrome may have a red slip and black-on-tan designs with multiple framing lines, later Tewa Polychrome usually has black-on-white designs with single framing lines. Vessels usually have a sharp shoulder. Some of the rims are painted red.
