The Mojave The Mojaves call themselves the aha macav, which was misunderstood by the Spaniards and transcribed as Mojave. These people live along the Colorado River, a reason it is believed that aha macav means "people who live along the river". The Mojaves speak a language belonging to the Yuman Group. Others in this group include the Walapai, Havasupai, Yavapai, Diegueno, Kamia, Paipai, Kiliwa, Quechans, Maricopas, Halchidhomas, and the Kavelchadoms.
